Note: There is ongoing discussion on the topic.

Very little information is known about ORAC. We do know that is probably the first pokerbot ever written. It was developed in the early 80's by the famous poker player and author Mike Caro.

The computer, and its program, made poker and computer history by being a participant in a special event at the 1984 World Series of Poker, a $500,000 freeze-out hold 'em challenge against against Bob Stupak, owner of Vegas World, an event that was featured on the television show Ripley's Believe It Or Not.

Orac has acheived a number of historical milestones. It is believed to be the first pokerbot ever written, the first pokerbot that played in a public event for real cash, and it was involved in the first (possibly only) televised poker event which featured a non-human player.

Caro has divulged very little information about the strategy of the bot. One thing which has been stated about the bots play however is that an action is more likely to be considered as a bluff if the player pauses for a long time before acting, and less likely to be considered a bluff if performed quickly. Orac was programmed to pause for a longer amount of time when it wasn't bluffing than when it was.
